The intersection of architecture and philosophy

Who am I?
I’m Charlotte Cole, owner of this blog and architectural philosopher.
After training at the Bartlett, I went on to work as an architectural designer in London. However, I found myself missing the seminars and analysis of architectural theory. Being stuck working on corporate towers where money was the loudest (sometimes only) voice in the room, I needed an escape. I could feel my soul being eaten alive and my morals gathering dust.
So I quit and created this virtual space, firstly as an outlet for my own thoughts but also as a way to connect with others who feel the same.
I want this site to be a place of collaboration; Bloomsbury group 2.0?
I still believe we can make the world a better place through architecture. Despite all the bureaucracy, there has been small pockets of change. I want to help build a better world.
The Built Word is my contribution. I hope that through talking and sharing we can move architecture to a place where we’re building with people rather than for profit. Change the profession to be against overwork and elitism. To start building with love and care.
FAQs
How often is the newsletter?
Once a month you’ll receive a newsletter covering all the new articles released that month and a sneaky peak at next months plans.
Who is behind The Built Word?
It’s me, Charlotte Cole!
I run this website by myself, but occasionally have guest articles from interesting people (if you want to join the interesting people club, pop over to my Contact Page and send me a message.)
How is this funded?
It’s entirely donation based right now. This site may be the last bastion of ad free life simply because I hate them. If you hate ads too it would be very much appreciated if you would donate through Buy Me a Coffee ♡
Full transparency, it costs around £100 per year to run this site.
Are you an architectural genius?
